Twinning visit 2014
Tour de France - around Sully-sur-Loire by bike or coach
26th May to 1st June 2014
This was a visit especially tailored for families with children/young people as well as older members.
Our French counterparts had arranged that we could choose each day to cycle to a venue or go by bike.
There was even a trailer to transport the bikes part of the way to make things easier. Accommodation and meals had been arranged in French families.
After an ovenight rest we set off on our first day to the Chateau of Chambord and then on to the Chateau of Cheverny. Here there were beautiful gardens and an exhibition about the Tintin books as Cheverny was the inspiration for the castle in the Tintin books. From there we set off for most of us and several of the French twinners to spend the night at the Domaine du Ciran, an ecological and widlife centre in the beautiful Sologne area with lovely woodland walks.
The next day we travelled by bike or coach to Briare where we enjoyed a canal boat trip which took us across a splendid aqueduct. In the evening there was a reception held in the hall at Sully - a delicious meal and speeches of thanks from both committees.
The final day was one of options - another cycle ride or a coach trip to the nearby city of Orleans or a do what you will. Then early the next morning and all too soon it was time for the goodbyes and au-revoirs, the thanks, the kisses and hugs, the promises to keep in touch. As always we were overwhelmed by our French hosts' friendliness and generosity and we are looking forward to our next getting together.
